Spider Veins

Spider veins are small blue or red vessels that appear near the surface of the skin. They mainly appear on the legs and face.

Q. What is the best way to get rid of my spider veins?

There are two main treatments for managing spider veins. One method utilizes a special hand held laser unit that applies energy to the surface of the skin. The laser energy is absorbed into the vessel through the skin, eliminating blood flow through the small vein and causing the spider veins to “disappear”.

Another treatment is sclerotherapy, which involves injecting a solution into the vein to make the vein “vanish”.

Q. Is the laser treatment painful?

No. You will feel a light “pinching” type sensation as the laser delivers energy. We use the latest, advanced cooling machine to deliver a very cold stream of air over the area being treated. This helps ensure a more comfortable experience for you.

Q. Is the sclerotherapy painful?

No. We do not use saline injections at Amalfi. We utilize the new micro foam formula, which achieves great results without the pain associated with saline.

Q. How long do the treatments take?

The length and number of treatments varies based on your condition, however most sessions last between 15 and 60 minutes.

Q. How will I know which treatment to choose?

Your free initial consultation with the Doctor will include a free vein screening exam, including an ultrasound. Based on the findings the Doctor will discuss the right treatment options for you.

Q. If I have spider veins, does that mean I have varicose veins?

Spider veins are not a definitive indicator of varicose veins (venous reflux disease), and may appear on a patient with healthy vein valves. Only an ultrasound diagnosis can determine the presence of venous reflux disease.

Q. Are any of the treatments covered by insurance?

If spider veins are caused by venous reflux disease, it is considered a medical condition. Most insurance companies will cover the treatment of these veins with sclerotherapy. If the spider veins are a cosmetic condition only, we provide payment plans and options to assist you in getting the help you need.
