In the United States, more than 50% of the adult population suffers from vein disorders.
The most common types are varicose and spider veins.
Q. How do I know for sure if I have varicose veins?
Only an ultrasound diagnosis can determine the presence of varicose veins (venous reflux disease). Your free initial consultation with the Doctor will include a vein screening exam, including an ultrasound. Based on the findings, the Doctor will discuss suitable treatment options for you.
Q. I would like to eliminate my varicose veins, and I’ve heard about the new laser treatments. How do they work?
Laser: Using ultrasound guidance, a catheter is inserted into the saphenous leg vein. A laser fiber is then inserted into the catheter, and heat energy is delivered, resulting in the closure of the diseased vein.
Foam: A medical foam is injected into the target veins segments, resulting in closure of the diseased vein.
Q. How long does the procedure take?
Laser: On average, it lasts about 30 minutes. Once the procedure is complete, a bandage is placed over the insertion site and compression is worn for 48 hours.
Foam: The treatment takes less than 5 minutes; compression will be worn overnight after the procedure.
Q. Is it painful?
In properly trained and experienced hands, there should be no pain. In conjunction with Dr. Amalfitano’s expertise, this minimally invasive procedure provides a safe and comfortable experience. A painful experience is the most common reason people switch from other vein centers to Amalfi.
Q. Who performs the procedure?
This is an important question. Vein treatments are essentially non-regulated. That means many Doctors with no formal training in vascular disease are conducting treatments. Dr. David Amalfitano is a Board Certified Cardiac-Vascular Surgeon. His expert knowledge of the vascular system makes him the most qualified physician to perform laser therapy.
Q. When can I go back to work?
Walking is encouraged after the procedure, and you may return to work the same day!
Q. How effective is the procedure?
The Endovenous Laser Procedure is a safe treatment for varicose veins. It has been proven highly effective for treating venous reflux disease with a reported 95-97% success rate at a 12-month follow-up.
Q. Will my insurance cover the procedure?
Varicose Vein problems are a medical condition covered by most insurances. The friendly staff at Amalfi will work with your insurance company to get you the help you need.
Q. What is the best way to get rid of my spider veins?
There are two main treatments for managing spider veins. One method utilizes a special handheld laser unit that applies energy to the surface of the skin. The laser energy is absorbed into the vessel through the skin, eliminating blood flow through the small vein and causing the spider veins to "disappear".
Another treatment is sclerotherapy, which involves injecting a solution into the vein to make the vein "vanish".
Q. Is the laser treatment painful?
You will feel a "pinching" type sensation as the laser delivers energy. We use a cooling technique to minimize discomfort during your treatment, helping to ensure a more comfortable experience.
Q. If I have spider veins, does that mean I have varicose veins?
Spider veins are not a definitive indicator of varicose veins (venous reflux disease) and may appear on a patient with healthy vein valves. Only an ultrasound diagnosis can determine the presence of venous reflux disease.
Q. Are any of the treatments covered by insurance?
If spider veins are caused by venous reflux disease, it is considered a medical condition. Most insurance companies will cover the treatment of these veins with sclerotherapy. If the spider veins are a cosmetic condition only, we provide payment plans and options to assist you in getting the help you need.
Q. Is the sclerotherapy painful?
We do not use saline injections at Amalfi. We utilize a micro-foam formula, which achieves excellent results without the pain associated with saline.
Q. How long do the treatments take?
The length and number of treatments vary based on your condition; however, most sessions last between 15 to 60 minutes.
Q. How will I know which treatment to choose?
Your initial consultation with the Doctor will include a vein screening exam, including an ultrasound. Based on the finding, the Doctor will discuss the right treatment options for you.
"It was so easy and painless; I wish I hadn't waited to long."
